• Dr. Miguel Alonso Jr is an Associate Professor of Computer Science (Visiting) at Florida International University. His research interests include Deep Computer Vision for Autonomy, Autonomous Robotics and Autonomous Navigation, Visual SLAM, UAV for Agriculture Analysis, ML for Mycotoxin Prediction, Deep Learning towards full end-to-end autonomy. His teaching areas of interest include Image Processing, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science, Data Mining, Modern Control Systems, Robotics.

    Previously, he was an Associate Professor of Data Science and the Director of Research and Economic Development at FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Additionally, he was the CEO of Slingshot Labs, a Product Development, and Startup Consulting Company, providing Software/Hardware Engineering, Lean Startup and Product Development, and Venture Capital consulting services. Prior to this position, he was a Senior Software Engineer at Electricity Labs in Miami, FL. Some of his previous appointments have been as the Chief Technology Officer of Inceptures, a startup incubator and venture capital/venture management firm located in Miami, FL, an Associate Professor of Engineering and the Department Chairperson at the Miami Dade College School of Engineering + Technology and has also worked as a researcher at the DSP Lab at Florida International University, a Software Engineer in Algorithm Research and Development for Beckman Coulter, Inc., and as a the lead Computer Engineer at CPS Products, Inc. Dr. Alonso has a Bachelor Science degree in Computer Engineering (Magna Cum Laude), a Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Computer Engineering and Digital Signal and Image Processing. Dr. Alonso received his degrees from Florida International University. Dr. Alonso is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of ACM, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu.
