Overview
overview
- Hector R. Fuentes is a Full-tenured Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Florida International University (FIU). At FIU, Professor Fuentes has been honored with the Awards for Excellence in Research, Teaching and Service. During the 80s, he was a research scientist at Los Alamos. He has also served as Consultant to UNESCO, USAID, EPA, NSF and the Inter-American Development Bank. Dr. Fuentes served as National Trustee of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE) from 2007 through 2010, representing the Association of Environmental Engineering & Science Professors (AEESP). His research has been sponsored by DOE, NRC, Los Alamos National Laboratory, EPA, NSF and NASA, among others. Current research focuses on the study and model development of flow, fate and transport of contaminants in surface and ground waters, seeking solutions to problems in natural and engineered systems (e.g., flooding, water quality, saline intrusion). He has developed and taught engineering courses for undergraduate and graduate university curricula and professional organizations. He has also advised, as major professor, graduate students, both at the doctoral and master's levels, over last three decades. He has been a consultant to national and international governmental agencies, the private sector, and citizen organizations. He is a Lifetime Member in both the American Academy of Environmental Engineers & Scientists and the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors.
