  • Experimentation in early adolescence with alcohol, cigarettes, and illicit drugs is an important marker of future persistent drug use.1,2 Certain risk factors have predicted early drug use with considerable accuracy in a limited number of regional and national studies.3-6 However, these studies were limited in their ability to make comparisons across the major U.S. ethnic/racial groups.
