  • Cell and Stack Balancing is an integral feature defining the operation of a battery management system (BMS). This paper compares two different cell/stack interconnection topologies on a distributed active balancing scheme by proposing a unique voltage equalization algorithm combining top and bottom balancing for a 6s2p medium-voltage, medium-current battery pack. Detailed steps to model a cell based on the Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization (HPPC) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) test data in order to build a simulation based BMS model are also provided. Results indicate comparatively lower balancing time for the non-interleaved interconnection topology.
