  • Novel fluorescent nanocomposite nanofiber material consisting of CdS (quantum dots) and PEO (Polyethylene oxide) were fabricated by the electrospinning process. The fluorescent nanocomposite fibers ranging from 230nm to 280nm were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy and optical microscopy. The results confirmed that the fibers exhibit fluorescent properties and they were stable at room temperature. The successful demonstration of this new hybrid quantum dot/nanofiber technology promises to open the door to many applications for electrospinning area as well as utilizations of quantum dot including sensor, drug delivery, scaffolds for tissue engineering and security devices, camouflage and damage detection of composite structure.
