abstract

  • Recent experiences in wind tunnel testing of a number of long span bridge projects are described. These experiences include the aerodynamic stability of plate girder decks, the use of baffle plates and other methods to eliminate vortex excitation, the effects of wind turbulence, the effect of flutter on offset centre of rotation for torsional oscillation, the use of part span fairings and the effectiveness of tuned mass dampers.
