  • Cable vibrations due to wind has been a major concern in cable-stayed bridges design. Two common causes of vibration excitations, namely inclined cable galloping and rain/wind oscillations, are discussed and criteria for their prevention are suggested based on experimental investigations and field observations. Measurement of installed cable damping characteristics as a function of cable type and length are indicated to be particularly valuable.
